The Forgotten City is an award-winning, fan-created expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. You’ll get to enjoy new dungeons full of mysteries, new story segments, and multiple endings. Skyrim SE (Special Edition) During 2016, Bethesda announced a remastered version of Skyrim. Hence the confusion a lot of players had between ‘Skyrim Remastered‘ and ‘Skyrim Special Edition‘ – which is basically the same game with two different names players used interchangeably. During last week’s E3, Bethesda confirmed rumors that a remastered The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Definitive Edition would release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. Not long after the big news. I was thinking about skyrim remastered the other day. Remastered is about $40 while the original is $15. The mods on the original NO WAY make up to remastered standards. So which should i get. The original has 40 THOUSAND mods While the remastered has only 5k. Which should i get?

One of the biggest Nintendo Switch surprises came in the form of a game that most people will be familiar with: Skyrim. From the very start, Nintendo has been advertising Skyrim on the Switch, and for good reason, as this is the first time we’ve seen Bethesda’s epic open-world Elder Scrolls series come to Nintendo consoles. As exciting as it may be, Skyrim has been available on various platforms for six years now, and many gamers have already seen what its frozen landscape has to offer. With that in mind, is Skyrim worth purchasing again just because it’s now available on the Switch?
Before we really dive in, let’s just get this out of the way first: if you’ve never played Skyrim, you enjoy RPGs, and you own a Switch, you should absolutely buy it. For seasoned RPG veterans, Skyrim has lost some of its luster over the past few years, but for those who have yet to see what it has to offer, it’s definitely worth a purchase. Any RPG fan should play an Elder Scrolls game at some point, and Skyrim is arguably as good as any of them.
But what if you’ve played Skyrim to death already? That’s the camp I fall into. Between PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 (yes, really – all three platforms), my time playing Skyrim totals somewhere in the multiple hundreds of hours. I’ve clocked 300 hours on PC alone, thanks in large part to a healthy mod scene that allows me to make each playthrough vastly different. In short, Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time, as many Bethesda games eventually become.
On the other side of the coin, there’s a certain level of burnout that comes along with those almost obsessive Skyrim hot streaks that can last for weeks. I’ve seen the opening hours of Skyrim so many times that I’ve come to loathe them. At this point, I think I could put down Skyrim forever and be satisfied with the time I’ve spent with it.
It kind of took me by surprise, then, that I’ve been so eager to play Skyrim on Switch since downloading it a week ago. Make no mistake, this is vanilla Skyrim in all of its glory, so there’s nothing particularly special about it, save for the portability factor. As it turns out, that’s a bigger draw than I thought it would be.
The novelty of being able to play Skyrim whenever I happen to have my Switch on me is great. I don’t need to be tethered to my TV or my desk to continue my dragon-slaying adventures. I can be in bed, I can be traveling, or I can be in places decent people are uncomfortable talking about, and I’ve got Skyrim ready to go.
That is very cool, and I don’t know when that novelty is going to fizzle out, but it hasn’t yet. If anything, it’s helped me push through the opening hours I’m so tired of and get to the meat of the game, where you start to figure out your character and things begin to take off. For whatever it’s worth, that novelty has pushed me waist deep back into Skyrim, and I’m excited to keep playing.
If you’ve played Skyrim on consoles and the portability factor gets you excited to dive back in, then it’s definitely worth buying on the Switch. When held up against the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 releases, this will easily be the worst-looking version of Skyrim, but honestly, graphics fidelity shouldn’t be the reason you buy it. The game is six years old after all, so of course it’s going to be lackluster in the graphics department (nevermind the fact that it was a little underwhelming when it was brand new).
For those who’ve done most of their Skyrim adventuring on PC, making a positive recommendation isn’t quite as easy. After years of modding the ever-loving crap out of Skyrim (which is basically your duty as a PC player), it’s certainly somewhat jarring to return to vanilla Skyrim. Though this has all of the DLC Bethesda released for the game, there still isn’t a whole lot here for those who have spent the past six years modding Skyrim into their ideal game.
The new features in the Switch version are neat, but they aren’t game changing in any sense. Amiibo support is cool, and the ability to get Legend of Zelda-themed items by scanning one of the many Zelda amiibo is a nice little call out to the series. You can scan any amiibo figure you own once a day and receive a chest with (seemingly) leveled loot, so if you have a decent collection, scanning Amiibo could definitely give you a leg up when it comes to outfitting your hero in gear and growing your coin purse. They’ll offer a nice jump start for anyone who has already played Skyrim before, but beyond that, Amiibo support is just a little bonus that you can survive without.
Motion controls, on the other hand, aren’t anything worth getting excited about. I’m sure there are a few people out there who will really get into them, but to me, they feel worse in every way to traditional controls. This could very well be down to the fact that I simply don’t like motion controls, but regardless, they shouldn’t be a deciding factor in whether or not you play the game.
Portability is the biggest thing going for Skyrim on Switch. It’s great – really great – and I think it brings a fresh angle to a game that so many of us are already very familiar with. If the prospect of Skyrim on the go gets you just as excited as it got me, or if you’re far enough out from your last playthrough that you’re beginning to get that itch again, then Skyrim on Switch is worth diving into.
For everyone else – the people who are burned out entirely on Skyrim at this point or the players who have so many mods on their PC that it’s a wonder the game runs without crashing – I’d say Skyrim is still worth considering, but maybe after it goes on sale at some point down the road. Skyrim is great, but $60 is likely going to be too much for those who have had their fill elsewhere.Story Timeline

Before you choose a race, check out the differences between them and imagine which one best suits your playstyle. Even though Skyrim is not a game that locks you in the choice, you will still find it a lot better to make the right choice at the beginning. For example, if you prefer a tank/melee warrior, you may want to consider Breton, since their ability Resist Magic 25% would be helpful. Or if you prefer to stick to the shadows, the Bosmer (or Wood Elves) have skills particularly well suited for thief builds.Visit the Guardian Stones
You encounter the Guardian Stones shortly after you escape Helgen, and you need to make sure you don’t miss finding them. There are three stones (The Mage Stone, The Thief Stone, and The Warrior Stone), each granting a 20% reduction in the time it takes to level up skills associated with that class. You can work on all your skills simply by fast-traveling from Whiterun to the Guardian Stones and back to switch from Warrior Stone (because you were maybe smithing some gold rings) to the Mage Stone (because you want to enchant those rings). Or, if a quest calls for stealth, it’s equally simple to tap the Thief Stone so that set of skills gets a speed boost in leveling up.Conjure Up One of the Game’s Most Powerful Bows
There’s a Bound Bow tome in Fort Amol, and the only thing standing between an early-level Dragonborn and pure sniping satisfaction are a few novice spellcasters. Even if you’re not planning to be primarily a ranged fighter, the Daedric bow summoned by the Bound Bow spell is one of the most powerful bows in the game, so it is certainly worth picking up. You’ll need to improve your Conjuration skill to use the spell, so be sure to check the full guide for tips on easy ways to do that.
To find the spell tome, head to Fort Amol, which is about two-thirds of the way on the Whiterun-to-Ivarstead road that runs clockwise around the Throat of the World. As you enter the interior of Fort Amol Prison from Fort Amol’s exterior courtyard, immediately ahead of you is a spellcaster sitting at a desk. Dispose of him as quietly as you can, because there’s another spellcaster in a nearby room who is standing by to rush to your victim’s aid. Once you’ve dealt with the immediate danger(s), look to the right of the right-hand bookcase behind the desk. See that bucket with the lantern in it? Under that lantern is the Bound Bow tome.It Pays to Be Sneaky
Having a high Sneak skill makes life much easier in Skyrim. Even if you are a heavily armored melee machine, there are times when sneaking will help get you past a difficult situation. It can also help in scoring some sweet loot (more on that below). Sneaking also serves as a built-in radar. The open eye symbol will alert you to any enemies that can see you and prevents from them getting the drop on you.
The easiest way to build up your Sneak skill is to constantly sneak while traveling. Here are some other good ways to improve Sneak:
*The rubber band method: Sneak behind a bartender in any local tavern and place a rubber band on your controller stick to keep your character walking into a corner or wall while remaining hidden. Then just walk away and do something else. It will take a few hours, but your Sneak skill will slowly build over time.
*Don’t poke the bear: You can use the same method as above to sneak around the bear you encounter while escaping from Helgen.
*Sneak attack the Greybeards: The Greybeards in High Hrothgar are a great way to simultaneously improve Sneak and your combat skills. Just sneak up behind them and attack. They won’t die and won’t attack back if you don’t do this too often.

One of the joys of Skyrim is exploring the vast map to find all of the different waypoints — location markers on your map that you can later fast-travel to. However, walking long distances to get to an out-of-the-way cave can be tiring and dangerous… unless you have a horse. Horses are faster, sturdier, and can climb rocky mountains better than you. Trying to get to that dragon lair high atop that craggy peak? A horse can usually get you there.
Early on, you can steal a horse from the Whiterun Stables quite easily. There’s one in a stall and there’s an empty stall next to him. Even with the poor sneak skills you have early in the game, you can open the gate to the empty stall, sneak around behind the horse, wait until your sneak-eye indicator says “hidden”, and then hop on and ride off into the sunset!
Bear in mind that if you dismount your stolen horse, it will immediately head back to the stable (at a walk, so you can run and catch him).Actually, Just Steal as Much as You Can in General
Stealing in real life is bad. Stealing in The Elder Scrolls is a time-honored tradition and one of the easiest ways to collect crafting items for Alchemy and Smithing recipes. If you’re good enough, you can also steal some pretty powerful potions much earlier in the game than you would be able to craft them.
As long as you are hidden and nobody sees you, you can get away with stealing anything marked red without alerting the guards or placing a bounty on your head. Note that in the early game, it may be difficult to sell stolen goods until you find a proper fence, but you can absolutely still use these items for yourself.Get Rich with the Transmute Spell
Transmute Mineral Ore is an Alteration Spell that allows you to convert iron ore into silver ore, and silver ore into gold ore. These higher value ores can be used to craft higher quality weapons and armor, or other items that can be sold for a tidy profit.
The Transmute Mineral Ore spell is available to you right away. Just visit Halted Stream Camp, north by northwest of Whiterun. In the mine, there is a Transmute spell book. It’s protected by bandits, but if you can lure some of them out of the camp (by galloping the stolen horse from the last entry in and right back out again, for example), you can pick them off one by one. You can then crouch behind some rocks up the hill from the camp entrance while the remaining bandits search for you inside. They will remain alerted, but won’t be able to find you … all the while your sneak skill improves quite rapidly.Get Even Richer Using an Invisible Chest in Dawnstar
You can take a carriage from the Whiterun Stables to Dawnstar, a small village in the northwest of Skyrim. Behind The White Hall, near the entrance to the Iron-Breaker Mine are three rocks and some bushes. Poke around a bit until you see the “Open Chest” prompt. Voila! An instant source of several level-dependant weapons enchanted weapons, jewels, potions, gold, and more.
The chest belongs to the khajit trader, Ahkari, who camps outside Dawnstar and other cities. Apparently, Ahkari isn’t too concerned about people repeatedly stealing her wares.
